Catalan Health System innovation Access Program
PASS is a new program aimed at accelerating the integration of innovative solutions into the Catalan healthcare system and fostering collaboration among all stakeholders in the ecosystem.
In May 2024, Biocat officially launched the Catalan Health System innovation Access Program (PASS) at the Health Revolution Congress, with participation from institutions, companies and startups in the sector. This initiative was created to make it easier and faster for innovative solutions to be included in the Catalan healthcare system, promoting collaboration among all the ecosystem stakeholders. The program is part of a mandate from the Catalan Ministry of Health, with Biocat taking on the coordination of the Subcommittee on Innovation Adoption in Healthcare.
Over the course of the year, PASS launched the innovation platform, designed as a meeting point for innovation developers and the Healthcare System, which is composed of healthcare centers and institutions, providing key information on products in development within the BioRegion of Catalonia.
Plus, the PASS Support Unit pilot was launched to provide personalized support for innovations with high potential that can address key challenges for the healthcare system. Several services were tested to simplify assessment and access processes, transparency of criteria and procedures, in order to identify areas for improvement to speed up the incorporation of innovation into the public system. Additionally, opportunities for dialog with the private sector were strengthened, with the goal of generating synergies and avoiding duplication of activities and acceleration programs for companies.
PASS is being developed and rolled out in collaboration with the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia (AQuAS), Catalan Health Service (CatSalut) and TIC Salut Social Foundation.
Key PASS Services:
- Innovation platform: a directory of solutions that are candidates for adoption by the healthcare system.
- Tool and program browser: a catalog of resources, instruments and programs available to the innovation community.
- Support unit: a service providing personalized support and advice for innovations prioritized by the system, facilitating access to assessment, pilot programs and identifying opportunities for implementation within the system.
