Record investment in the BioRegion

The 2021 BioRegion of Catalonia Report, promoted by Biocat, was presented in January in order to announce the most significant data on the Catalan ecosystem. The event took place at the AXA Auditorium, with 300 people in the audience and more following the live stream.

In 2021, startups in the BioRegion raised €238 million in investment, the most to date, of which €187 million was from venture capital. Of all the operations, 83% included foreign investors, mainly from Europe (51) and the United States (31). Over the course of the year there were 36 operations, fewer than the previous year (41) but worth more each on average.
The subsector with the most investment was medical technology, which saw a x2.4 increase from 2020, and digital health companies nearly doubled the investment secured, at over €60 million.
