Biocat will coordinate the future Advanced Therapies Hub of Catalonia. President of the Government of Catalonia, Mr. Pere Aragonès i Garcia, and Catalan Minister of Health Mr. Manel Balcells i Díaz announced this during their visit to the Biocat facilities and to the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) in November 2022.

The mission of this project will be to identify and align the stakeholders in the BioRegion, public and private, that are part of the hub and work to secure the whole value chain, from generation and development through to access to the market and healthcare system.

The Advanced Therapies Hub will have great international potential because the global trend is to make a clear commitment and investment in developing personalized, advanced therapies based on bioengineering processes, and Catalonia has the essential ingredients to be a leader in this field

The Advanced Therapies hub has been consolidated with this agreement to create the new National Center for Advanced Therapies (CNTA), coordinated by the Blood and Tissue Bank. The new center will help boost hospitals’ capacity to do clinical trials on these therapies and establish the process for development and industrial scale-up.

Catalan Minister of Health Mr. Manel Balcells confirmed that €60 million has been earmarked for the project over the coming three years; however it will also apply for competitive grants and other calls for strategic projects to develop and implement advanced therapies, providing access to other sources of funding.
