2025 Report of Activities
2025 was a year of strategic consolidation and international projection for the BioRegion of Catalonia, during which Biocat continued rolling out its 2024–2027 roadmap with the aim of strengthening Catalonia’s role as a benchmark European hub in life sciences and health innovation. In a context marked by the transformation of the healthcare system, the advance of advanced therapies, personalized medicine and the need to accelerate the arrival of new solutions to the market and clinical practice, Biocat acted as a connector, catalyst and driving force for the ecosystem.

The year was especially significant in terms of promoting initiatives to facilitate innovation access to the healthcare system. The Healthcare System Access Program (PASS) continued to advance as a key tool for supporting innovative solutions on their path to adoption, bringing new Catalan startups into the Guidance Unit and hosting the 2025 PASS Day. At the same time, the launch of the first INNOPASS call strengthened this area of activity, consolidating a support framework to bring innovation generated in the BioRegion of Catalonia closer to the real needs of the healthcare system and the people.
Advanced therapies and personalized medicine continued to be central to Biocat’s strategic agenda. Rolling out ATMP Catalonia, launching ATMP Catalyst and hosting events like ATMP Day 2025 helped unite Catalonia’s scientific, clinical, industrial and regulatory capabilities in this highly complex field with great impact. At the same time, participation in European projects like PRECISEU and international personalized medicine initiatives strengthened the BioRegion of Catalonia’s presence in the main European conversations about the future of health.
Biocat also worked intensively in the areas of acceleration, knowledge transfer and support for business growth. Programs like CRAASH Barcelona, d·HEALTH Barcelona, ATMP Catalyst, Tech Transfer Day, EIT Health Start-up Amplifier, Market Access Support Program and the Barcelona Healthcare Investment Forum continued to provide support tools for startups, entrepreneurial projects and initiatives from the scientific and clinical arenas. These initiatives address one of the BioRegion of Catalonia’s main challenges: transforming research excellence into competitive, scalable solutions capable of generating economic, health and social impact.
International projection was another of the year’s highlights. The presentation of the 2024 BioRegion of Catalonia Report, the hosting of the Barcelona Health Innovation Week and Biocat and the ecosystem’s participation in events like 4YFN, BIOSPAIN, the BIO International Convention in Boston, RESI Europe Barcelona, Advanced Therapies Europe, Health Tech Forward and the Hellenic Biocluster Forum helped strengthen Catalonia’s global positioning. These activities showcased the BioRegion of Catalonia’s capabilities, forged international connections and opened up new opportunities for companies, research centers, hospitals and institutions.
2025 was also a year of consolidating the tools and services that facilitate the ecosystem’s connections and visibility. Updating the BioRegion Directory, driving the Health Investment Portal, taking part in European projects like Clusters4Health and new initiatives related to talent and biomanufacturing helped strengthen Biocat’s ability to provide data, generate opportunities and connect stakeholders. At the same time, the organization’s communication activities continued to showcase the BioRegion of Catalonia’s evolution through digital channels, the media, newsletters and new spaces with institutional presence.
This report provides a summary of Biocat’s diverse, strategic activities in 2025, a year when the organization continued working to anticipate the sector’s main challenges, accelerate innovation adoption, strengthen companies’ competitiveness and consolidate Catalonia as an international health innovation ecosystem.
